COACHES

Warren Smith: Career: 1977 - 1980 First O-rep for Women's Crew
Colonel, USMC, Retired
Personal: Jane and I remember fondly our days at USNA on the staff and our great group of winners.
Retired from USMC in '96.  Currently employed with Airport Group International.
Kevin Latham:    Career: 1988-1990 Coach of the original "Creek Monsters" (P-HW 4+), silver medalists, IRA, Spr. '88

Fortunate coach of two of the best Novice Women's squads in the history of the Naval Academy: first-ever silver medalists (Spr. '89) and first-ever gold medalists (Spr. '90).  For both of those crews, I could have mailed it in, they were that good.  (Liz Lambert took those crews and turned them into varsity champions.)

Personal:   Returned to Annapolis, '99.  Wife Sandi owns the Flower Shop on King George Street.  Son Conor USNA '03.  Son Taylor St. Mary's College of Maryland '05.  Both offshore sailors.
Information: I learned to coach rowing from the best: the world-famous Rodney Pratt, unflappable Liz Lambert, Jonathan Phinney and Pat Manion, and the legend himself, future hall-of-famer Rick Clothier.  I learned most from the rowers.  Thanks to you all.

Elizabeth (Liz) Lambert: Career: 1986 - 1990 Former Chinese-Mandarin Linguist for the Army Security Agency. Air Assault qualified. Expert with the M-16. Had the honor of coaching at Navy first as the Novice Women's Coach (86-87) and then as the Varsity Women's Coach (87-90). Presently Assistant Athletic Director for Administration at Harvard.
Personal: Coached Kari Hogan Hughes who actually likes ergs now (?). Married to Dr. Rodney Pratt, former Plebe Heavyweight Crew Coach. Captain of the Women's B Squash League Champions for the metro-Boston area. Provider of good home for two rescued Siamese cats and one deaf Maltese dog.

I was thrilled to visit the boathouse and find multiple women's crew shells and a roster of 70 rowers! It was great to be a part of the first Navy Women's Crew - absolutely my fondest memories of USNA and the place where my closest friendships were formed.  I'll always be grateful to Coach Clotheir and the faith he had in our fledgling crew.
