VARSITY COACH - MIKE HUGHES
Mike.gif (12907 bytes) Mike Hughes enters his 11th year as the Head Coach of the Women's Crew.  During his tenure, the team has steadily increased speed and competitiveness in the Eastern Sprints League.  

In 2005 the Navy Women's Crew won the inaugural Patriot League Champions by sweeping all of the championship events. Hughes was voted by his peers as the 2005 Patriot League Coach of the Year.

Hughes came to Navy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 as the Varsity Men’s Lightweight Coach. While at Penn, his Lightweight Freshmen medaled twice at the Eastern Sprints. In his second year at Navy, he led the Lightweights to their first winning season in many years. In the fall of 1994 Hughes took over the Heavyweight Freshman team and in 1997 his Second Frosh won the Eastern Sprints
.
A 1972 graduate of Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Hughes has been coaching since 1975. He has managed numerous National Teams and the 1988 Olympic Team.

 

ASSISTANT COACH - NICKY STIMPSON

  Nicky Stimpson is in her 6th year as the Novice/Assistant Varsity Coach.

Prior to coming to Navy, Stimpson coached two years as the Novice/Assistant Coach at Wesleyan  University. Stimpson graduated from Washington College in 2000 with a degree in both economics and political science. Stimpson was an integral member of both the Varsity Crew and Varsity Swim Team, co-captaining both squads her senior year as well as being named the Crew  MVP. 

During her time at Navy Stimpson has primarily coached the Novice Eights as well as the Varsity Fours. In the spring of 2005 Stimpson coached the Varsity Four to a win at the inaugural Patriot League Championship. For the 2003-'04 and 2004-'05 seasons Stimpson has been the recipient of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Mid- Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year.

 

VOLUNTEER COACH - KARI HUGHES

kari.jpg (9344 bytes) Karin  Hughes is in her 8th season as an assistant with the Navy Crew program, serving for the past four years as the Volunteer Coach.   Prior to accepting the Novice position, Hughes assisted with the Freshmen Men’s Crew and the Varsity Women’s Crew.

A 1991 graduate of the US Naval Academy, Hughes was the Captain of the Varsity Women’s Crew and served in the US Navy as a Supply Corps Officer following graduation.

A member of the 1997 National Rowing Team, she stroked the Women’s Double in the World Championships at Aigubelette, France.  As stroke of  the 1999 Pan Am Double, Hughes won a Silver Medal.  In 1998, Hughes and her partner won the Championship Double at the Head of the Charles in Boston, MA.

 

VOLUNTEER COACH - BETH DIXON

Beth Dixon is in her second year as a Volunteer Coach for the Navy Women's Crew program.  Prior to coming to Navy, she spent two years as the Junior Varsity Coach for the Annapolis Juniors, the competitive high school program within Annapolis Rowing Club.

Graduating in 2001 from the US Naval Academy with a Bachelor's in Systems Engineering, Dixon was Captain of the Varsity Women's Crew and served in the Navy as a Cryptologic Officer following graduation.  She currently works for a defense contracting company in the area.
